Every
effort is made to save as much original glass as possible. Repairs are accomplished using a
variety of techniques, each suited to particular situations. All methods are non-destructive
and reversible. When
necessary, replacement glass is used that matches the original. Repairs are documented, using
‘rubbings’ (full-sized tracings made on rag vellum), and
photographs. Following, is
a brief look at some of the steps involved in repair and restoration of
stained glass windows.

Most
often, significant repairs or complete restoration require
re-leading. The lead in the
windows has deteriorated, rendering it useless, but making disassembly
relatively easy.
